For the neatest cake presentation, Doric FPD's premium fibreboard cake boards can be custom made in all industry standard round and square sizes from 4 inches to 24 inches. We also have cutters for unusual shapes including hearts and hexagons. At approximately 12mm thick, cake drums provide solid, strong support for heavier cakes and multi-tiered cakes. Cake drums are commonly supplied covered in silver foil, but a range of colours or patterned foils are also possible.

For faster and easier release during cooking and baking, greaseproof tin liner sheets are a low-cost way to drive food production efficiency.
Plain greaseproof paper sheets are passed by hand through a roller press for precise cutting and creasing. This process ensures a perfect fit to your tins and minimises waste.
As the name suggests, board that has a raw edge is referred to as ‘cut edge board’. We use cut edge processes to produce cake cards and other customised packaging components made from paper and board.

A board that is covered on the top and sides is called a ‘turned edge board’. Cake drums always have a turned edge for the neatest, most premium presentation. At Doric FPD, we use a combination of machine automation and highly skilled hand finishing to cover boards in foil. For the neatest results, there are two different ways to cover the board depending on customer preference; folding or banding.

Some turned edge boards are produced using a banding technique. Carried out by hand, it’s a highly skilled process whereby a strip of foil is turned neatly around the edge of the board, then another piece of foil is applied to the top. We pride ourselves in the highest standards of skilled UK production so we can deliver the neatest and tidiest boards for the most important celebrations.

A turned edge board can be produced by folding one sheet of foil over the top and sides of a board to achieve a premium finish. Here at FPD, this process is carried out by a hand or by machine. Think of it like wrapping a present! It takes a high level of skill and dedication to efficiently produce the standard of boards we can be proud of, and that our customers can rely on.
